The Stûv 16-Z is a zero-clearance wood-burning fireplace (factory-built) that integrates into a combustible wall while offering the large fire view characteristic of the Stûv 16 range. Thanks to the SBR automatic control, natural convection and efficient air wash, it combines ease of use, clean glass and EPA-certified performance. Three sizes — 16-58 Z, 16-68 Z, 16-78 Z — cover heating needs from 1,400 to 2,100 sq ft (depending on insulation and configuration).
Zero-clearance: insulated shell designed for combustible materials; ideal for new construction or renovation.
Simplified operation: SBR (Single Burn Rate), no air damper to manage; removable handle for a clean façade.
High-performance combustion: secondary combustion, low emission rate, air-washed glass for a clear view of the flames.
Outside air ready: Ø 4″ connection (kit and damper available).
Finishes: Thin Edge (4 mm) and Picture 2″ / 4″ / 6″ frames (StûvGrey); custom 3-sided frames.
Canada: the 16-78 Z models are available in Canada.
Maximum output: 65,000 / 82,000 / 86,000 BTU/h (58 / 68 / 78).
EPA output: 27,015 / 24,818 / 28,765 BTU/h.
Nominal output: 46,000 / 50,000 / 58,000 BTU/h.
Efficiency (EPA): 70.3% / 61.6% / 66.6%.
Emissions: 1.47 / 1.94 / 3.1 g/h.
Heating area: 1,400 / 1,650 / 2,100 sq ft.
Firebox volumes: 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.2 cu ft.
Logs: 17″ / 21″ / 25″.
Glass (W×H): 17 5/8″ / 21 9/16″ / 25 1/2″ × 16 9/16″.
Type: zero-clearance built-in wood-burning fireplace.
Venting: Ø 6″ (Ø 7″ option) chimney, listed UL-103HT / ULC-S629; 7″ adapter recommended for chimneys < 18′.
Outside air intake: Ø 4″ (recommended for airtight homes).
Standards & certifications: UL 127 / ULC S610 (factory-built fireplaces), EPA 2020 (16-58 Z & 16-68 Z; 16-78 Z per most recent publication), CSA B415.1.
Code (QC): installation by qualified contractor per CSA B365, with strict compliance to prescribed clearances, facings and convection grilles.
Annual: chimney sweeping, inspection of gaskets and baffles, verification of flue and air intake.
Daily: burn dry wood (≤ 20% moisture) to maintain efficiency and glass cleanliness.
Warranty: per Stûv policy; wear parts covered per terms.
