The Wilderness Burner collection by Ortal brings the aesthetics of a wood fire closer to the comfort of gas thanks to its Firelog Technology (flame “through the log”). The result: a taller and very realistic flame, with all the advantages of a high-end direct-vent fireplace. The range covers several formats (front, left/right corner, three-sided, traditional, stand-alone) for residential and commercial projects in Montréal and the North Shore.

  • Key Technologies: Two heat barriers are offered to meet surface temperature requirements: micro-mesh screen (Screen) or Double Glass; both solutions comply with ANSI regulations. Cool Wall Technology keeps the wall above cooler to allow for the integration of a television or artwork, when mounting details are followed.
  • Control & Integration: Wilderness fireplaces are compatible with modern controls (remote control, Wi-Fi / home automation integrations via the MyFire/Mertik SYMAX ecosystem, depending on the model). For complex installations, Ortal’s Power Vent System significantly expands the possibilities for exhaust routing compared to standard direct-vent.
  • Performance & Installation (overview): Each model has its own values (glass opening, BTU, AFUE, venting requirements). Several references exist in “H/HH” versions for taller openings. Installation must follow the manual of the chosen model and be performed by a qualified contractor, in accordance with CSA B149.1 Code in Quebec.

In our opinion, the Ortal Wilderness series is the most magnificent fireplace currently available on the market. Its handcrafted logs, integrated log burner, and flame quality make the Ortal gas fireplace a must-have in the very high-end fireplace market. For those seeking a fireplace with a glass height greater than 20 inches, the Wilderness burner fills the firebox space more effectively than a traditional burner.
