Technology

Wilderness (flames through the logs)

The Ortal Insert Collection brings the premium Ortal experience to existing masonry fireplaces. Available in two sizes (29″ and 34″), these inserts feature Wilderness technology, where the flame passes through the logs for striking realism, while keeping the cleanliness and comfort of gas. Frame options (black, antique bronze, brushed chrome), various-size surrounds, and a choice of interior panels (red brick, gray-tan brick, Blackridge, black reflective glass) enable a tailored integration into any high-end residential project.

Key features

Wilderness Firelog Technology: flames through the logs for an authentic wood-fire look.
Two sizes: Insert 29 (view 26 5/16″ × 16 11/16″) and Insert 34 (view 29 13/16″ × 20 3/16″).
Output & efficiency: up to 35,000 BTU/h; AFUE up to 84% depending on fuel/model.
Co-linear venting for inserts (flex liners in the existing chimney): 3″×3″ (Insert 29) or 4″×3″ (Insert 34).
Heat barrier: micro-mesh screen compliant with ANSI glass-temperature requirements; official Ortal safety solution.
Comfort & control: interior lighting, discreet fans, remote, Wi‑Fi, and wall switch; operation possible with or without power.

Performance & comfort

The Insert 34 delivers up to 35,000 BTU/h (NG or LPG) with AFUE 82–84%; the Insert 29 offers 35,000 BTU/h (NG) and 28,500 BTU/h (LPG) with AFUE 75–81%. Both models feature anti-reflective glass for a clear view of the fire and a modulating flame system to adjust ambiance and heat output.

Installation & compliance (Québec)

Designed for existing fireplace openings: typical minimum width/height/depth dimensions are listed below (A–E). Venting is via two co-linear liners (combustion air + exhaust) to the chimney cap. Installation must be performed by a qualified contractor and comply with CSA B149.1 for gas appliances in Canada.

Maintenance & warranty

The micro-mesh screen and ceramic logs require little maintenance; seasonal cleaning of the anti-reflective glass and an annual inspection of the venting system are recommended in Ortal guides. (See the installation manuals and spec sheets linked to each model.)
